Manbegrot Shimellis

Vice President of Finance
Manbegrot Shimellis is a final year, full time, JD and MBA candidate. Mr. Shimellis joined Kogod Private Equity & Venture Capital Club in the fall of 2010, shortly after returning from an exchange program in Asia. In addition to his involvement with the Club, Mr, Shimellis has been an active member of the Business Law Society, International Trade and Investment Law Society, and the Kittrie's Moonies intramural basketball team. After completing his graduate studies, Mr. Shimellis will sit for the New York and New Jersey State bar examinations with the intention of becoming a dual state licensed attorney.

While in graduate school, Mr. Shimellis has worked at SATIG, LLC, a US based investment banking and advisory firm focusing on the emerging and frontier markets of Asia and Africa, primarily in the oil and gas, energy, mining, financial services, transport and real estate spaces. Through his experience at SATIG, Mr. Shimellis honed his quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, sharpened his legal reasoning and negotiation proficiency, and developed a unique grasp of the interplay between geo-political events and international business. 

Prior to American University, Mr. Shimellis attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where he earned a B.A. in Economics. While at Wesleyan, he was involved with the Investment Club, Pre-Law Club, Varsity Track and Field Team, and intramural basketball.

On a more personal note, Mr. Shimellis' other interests include reading, travel, and sports. His life long ambition is to break Jim and Paige Rogers' world record of most countries visited in a continuous journey by car.
